Visiting the theatre

Yesterday, the 16th December, Primaries 4, 5, 6 and 7 and their teachers and parent helpers, went by bus to Edinburgh to visit a theatre called The Lyceum. At the theatre they watched a performance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by a famous author called C.S. Lewis. Everyone in Primary 4 enjoyed the performance and everyone had their own favourite part to talk about when they returned to school.

Sorting the post

What a lot of cards there are today!

The Christmas postbox

In our school we have a special Christmas postbox. Pupils and staff post their Christmas cards in this box and, every day, one class in the school has a chance to empty the box, sort out the cards and then deliver the post to all the classes and staff members. Tammie Norrie and Jecky-forty-feet are waiting to empty the box onto our classroom floor so that all the cards can be sorted, then delivered.

Blackie's table decoration

Our completed table decorations were judged by Mrs Hilsley, our headteacher, and Mrs Hughes, our secretary. They chose Blackie's as the best one because it has a ring of snowmen from different countries dancing round the Christmas tree. Well done, Blackie!

The teachers have their lunch

After all the pupils had finished eating, the teachers were able to sit down and enjoy their Christmas lunch. It was lovely!

Our wonderful janitor, Alan

Alan is our janitor. He is very kind and helpful to everyone. He does a lot of work around our school and, on this day, he was the chief dishwasher! Well done, Alan!

Sylvia and her team

Our lovely Christmas lunch was cooked for us by Sylvia, Lynnette, Elaine and Pat. They worked very hard indeed as they had to dish up all the food too! Thank you to them all.

More staff members

Mrs Hughes, our school secretary, and Ms Kerr, who is teaching Primary 2, are waiting to collect lunches from the kitchen to serve to the hungry pupils!

Who is this pretending to be Rudolph?

The children were served their Christmas lunch by the teachers and other staff. Here is Mrs Kemp, who teaches Primary 3, pretending to be Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer!

Dessert

To complete our Christmas lunch we had a choice of an ice-cream star or fruit jelly and cream.

Roast Turkey for the main course

In Scotland, we eat roast turkey for the main part of our Christmas lunch. It is usually served with roast potatoes, vegetables, gravy and a little sausage.

Fruit Cocktail for starters

To begin our Christmas lunch, we had fresh fruit cocktail. Seed-Burd and Sodger are enjoying theirs!

Christmas lunch at Yester Primary

On Tuesday 9th December, we had our special Christmas lunch. Many pupils and staff enjoyed a delicious traditional lunch which was prepared for us by our school cook, Sylvia, and her hardworking team. The dinner tables were beautifully decorated with the table decorations which we had made in our classrooms. It was a lovely event.

Primary 4's Norwegian carol

We hope that you enjoy listening to us trying hard to sing in your native language. Have we pronounced our words correctly?

Jeg er så glad hver julekveld,
for da ble Jesus født,
da lyste stjernen som en sol,
og engler sang så søtt.

Det lille barn i Betlehem,
han var en konge stor
som kom fra himlens høye slott
ned til vår arme jord.

The Flying Scotsman

Here we are dancing a Scottish Country dance. It's called The Flying Scotsman. The Flying Scotsman was a famous steam locomotive which ran between Edinburgh and London for many years. In 1934 it was the first steam train to break the 100 mph barrier. It was restored in 1999 and again carried passengers north from London.
When we are dancing, the two leaders are the engine and the rest of us are the carriages. The noises we are making are the noises of a steam train.

Horse and Rabbit

Nissen (The Norwegian santa)

He has a beard.
He has green and brown clothes and a red hat.
He has usually a big tummy.
He is a small as a gnome, and he lives in the barns and under rocks in the woods.
We must give the "Nisse" Christmas porridge, or he will get mad at us.
When he is mad he plays nasty tricks at us.

Nissen (Den norske nissen)

Han har skjegg.
Han har brune og grønne klær og rød lue.
Han har vanligvis en stor mage.
